Habit 4: Think Win-Win

Summary

Think Win-Win is basically just as it sounds. This means thinking positively about yourself and others, the scarcity vs. the abundance of something.

5 Examples of Human Interaction

Below are 5 examples of things that we all think when we are either around other people or are interacting with other people.

  1. Win-Lose: This is when you are competitive and only you win and no one else
  2. Lose-Win: For this situation, you are insecure and think that everything is against you.
  3. Lose-Lose: This is a revenge situation, you get jealous and think that if you can't have it then one else can
  4. Win: This is when you are self-centered and are only thinking about yourself
  5. Win-Win: This is what we will be talking about, this is when you want everyone to win or then you can't do it.

Scarcity vs. Abundance

For a student they can a scarcity or abundance mindset. Below are some things about each kind of thinking:

  • Scarcity: This kind of mindset is when they are thinking that there is not enough to go around. They also believe that everyone is against. For these students it also means that their self-esteem is low. This person is also reactive and does not use the first 3 habits (Habit 1, Habit 2, Habit 3).
  • Abundance: On the other hand, this mindset is when they are thinking that there is a lot to go around. This person is a proactive person and is opposite than the person with a scarcity mindset.

Be Happy for the Successes of Others

For most people, when they see some one succeeding they become bitter and are not thinking Win-Win. It is just as important to be happy for other people when they succeed. People with a Win-Win attitude (also a Abundance Mentality) will be happy for other people's success'

This goes hand-in-hand in sharing credit and recognition with the other group members. This can happen quit often in a group when doing a project. Even if the project does not turn out good do not just blame other people, as a group, share it together.

In today's world we live off of other people's complements, but rarely do we return the favor to others. We need to make deposits into other people's emotional bank. This means giving complements to peoples, doing small acts of kindness, this list goes on. Sometimes the littlest thing can really make a persons day, who knows, that complement that you gave could have turned the day around for that person.
