Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind

Summery

Begin with the end in mind means that you know the goal and how you can get there. To do this a student needs to: know what matters to them, set realistic goals, and map out a plan. When a college student does this there goals will be easily reached.

What Matters the Most to You?

For some people this can be easy to decide what matters most for them. But for others it can be hard to choose and decide what really is important. This can happen from an memory of something that you really enjoy.

Once you have decided what matters most to you, you can create a personal mission statement. A mission statement to something that you can live by everyday. This statement can be something that is meaningful to you and also something that you strive to be.

Set Realistic Goals

When creating goals you need to remember to keep them realistic and meaningful. Create goals that are personal to you. For example a goal could be that you want to meet 5 new people or once you graduate you want to have a job.

Here are 3 simple tips for setting goals:

  • State the why
  • Be specific
  • Don't set too many goals

Also set long term goals that last for a long time. These goals can be personal or can be for/about a career.

Map Out a School Plan: Graduation and Career

Though sometimes things don't go as planned in school, but it is a good idea to at least have a plan of what you are going to take. If you plan early it means that you can save money later on. Instead of seeing what happens and taking class that don't follow your major, you can waste money. If you have a plan for graduating then you can save money and possible get ahead

When planning for school you also need to plan out your career. In which, you need to map out and plan out what you are going to do later in life. You need to pick a career that answers these four things for you:

  • Talent: this is what you are doing best, what you are good at
  • Passion: this is what you like to do the most, what you are really passionate about
  • Need: reality check
  • Conscience: this is the feeling that something "ought" to be done. This is also when you feel prepared for what ever job you want to do

When you answer all of these questions it means that you found Your Career "Sweet Spot". Also like said above, this means that in college you are not wasting time or money trying to figure out what you want to do.

Begin With the End in Mind for a College Students' Success

For a college student, it is important that they "begin with the end in mind". As said above for a student it can save them money if they plan out what they are going to take/do in college. For their success it helps them set goals and meet them easily throughout there time in school and once they get out of school.
